Fried Green Tomatoes

Here is a recipe for friedgreen tomatoes that can be used on a BLT, a breakfast sandwich, on nouveau EggsBenedict, on a hamburger or just enjoyed as a side dish to any meal.  BonAppetit y'all!

Ingredients

  • 3 Large Green Tomatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups All purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/4 tsp oregano leaves dried
  • 1/4 tsp smoked paprika

Instructions

  • In a large bowl, combine flour and spices
  • Slice tomatoes 1/4 inch thickness
  • Dredge the tomato slices into the seasoned flour mixture until coated shaking off the excess flour
  • Place on a cookie sheet pan and let sit for five minutes letting the tomatoes absorb the flour
  • Heat the oil in a shallow frying pan with the oil about an inch deep
  • Once the oil is shimmering, dredge the tomatoes again in the flour and add to the pan, being careful not to crowd the tomatoes, reducing the heat if necessary
  • Cook about three minutes on each side until theyare brown and crispy
  • Remove from heat and place on a plate lined with paper towels
  • Fry in small batches

Notes

Serve warm with a tomato or bacon jam.
